I was going to mix some of these pictures in with my the movie of my last post, but there were just too many of them that I liked. Lots of fun memories packed into only one day.

Summer Fun

Being a bit behind on my movies I decided to put together a quick slideshow of some of the great people and sites I was able to see over the summer. Do you recognize all the people and places?

It has been a while since I posted a movie -- but this one was taken in June so I am counting it for that month. It is a little snippet of the fun we all had on the girl's trip. Wish you boys could have joined us.

Rattleback

This month you get the movies I made for my Advanced Dynamics final project. It was a simulation I created on the rattleback. The rattleback is an asymetrical top that will spin one direction as you would expect, but if you spin it in the opposite direction then it will stop spinning, rock back and forth and then spin in the "preferred" direction.


This video shows a real rattleback as it spins in the preferred direction.


This shows what happens if you try to spin it in the unstable direction.


This shows that the rocking motion turns into a spin in the preferred direction.

Simulation of the rattleback if you let it run for a longer time. One of the crazy things about this toy is that it will reverse spin multiple times. In real life this doesn't happen for most rattlebacks because of friction slowing it down too much, but it is possible.

Life in Cartoon

I thought it would be fun to cartoonify some video. So I thought I would turn some of our favorite cartoon addicts into characters themselves.

Chile Video

So, March kind of got away with me. But, here is a video I have been working on from our trip to Chile. I hope it brings back some fun memories.

For this video I was again playing around with time-lapse and figuring out what would work and what wouldn't for both photography and film.
